The Rush and Glory
"It was magic, right off the bat BOOM I got an unreal tube. I followed that wave with two more tubes and won my heat hands down. In my next heat, the wind came onshore and I couldn't find a tube to save my life and I was headed home. The whole thing was perfect, I had my one moment in the sun and now I'm back at work where I belong." This is the voice of Gregory Quinn responding to my comment on his performance in the HIC PRO at the Pipeline.
Gregory went on to explain the significance of his moment in the sun. "I have been an Extreme Junkie since my days of skateboarding at WALLO'S AND PANIC'S in Nui Valley. I've paddled into huge waves at Pipe and Waimea, been towed into my share of waves on the Outer reef, and done a variety of other activities primarily for the rush.
In my 25 years of pushing the limits of my ability, nothing compares to pulling into a tube at the Pipeline. Standing up straight inside of a tube at the Pipe is by far the rush of choice for me. To get three unreal tubes at the Pipeline in a contest was a huge reward for me.
I'm grateful for the rush and glory." Gregory Quinn is 40 years old and he has the FIRE; the drive, the passion and the skill to surf the Pipeline under pressure and WIN his heat. That's HiLevel!
