Communication challenges
that are often present in families are usually
enhanced when a child enters athletics.
For Parents: Acceptance, communication, expectations,
over involvement, and/or lack of support and the
inability to let go of performance results.
For Players: Acceptance, communication, expectations,
rebellion, acknowledgement of their parents and the
inability to let go of performance results or negative
parental feedback.
Parents: Introduce your children to athletics and then
encourage them to be inner-directed. This includes being
present, embracing the challenges, having fun and finding
value in their efforts. Provide them with the opportunity
to enjoy their game(s), play at their own level and then
let go of the results.
Parents and Players: Learn how to be inner-directed. Be
present in your relationship, embrace challenges and have
fun together and learn from your efforts. Help each other
to communicate responsibly and demonstrate your respect
for one another.
I can help you to recognize when you are too attached to
a desired outcome and to become more accepting and supportive
of your children. The challenge of being an effective
parent is to focus on creating the inspiration to learn
and grow and to avoid creating the pressure that destroys
relationships. I am happy to discuss my services with
you. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you
and your family to structure positive relationships for
all involved.
